CEAT Summer Intern, Victor Cervantes, was awarded 1st place in the technical paper competition in the undergraduate division at the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES) 31st Annual International Symposium and Career Fair held on November 1-6, 2005 in San Jose, CA. The research for this paper was based on his summer ’05 internship at CEAT.

Under the CEAT Internship Program in the summer of 2005, Victor Cervantes worked with Professor Jeff Roesler and Graduate Student Cristian Gaedicke on CEAT project, Fatigue and Fracture Behavior of Airfield Concrete Slabs. His summer research work in the Newmark Structural Engineering Lab and at ATREL focused on Fracture Mechanics.

Victor was one of four undergraduate interns at CEAT for the summer. His internship was arranged through the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) hosted through the UIUC Graduate College. This is an opportunity for the top students from underrepresented groups at Universities across the nation to participate in summer internships at the University of Illinois.

Victor is a senior in Manufacturing Systems Engineering at California State University Northridge (CSUN). Victor plans to purse a Masters Degree and Ph.D. in Material Science at a Big Ten University, preferably the University of Illinois.
