O'Hare Modernization Program (OMP) Executive Director Rosemarie S. Andolino has been named the recipient of the 2006-2007 Public Service Award by ASA Chicago.
"My boss, Mayor Richard M. Daley, has often remarked that public service is the highest calling," said Andolino. "That is why I am proud of my service on behalf of the citizens of Chicago since 1990, including the last four years as Executive Director of the O’Hare Modernization Program. I share the Mayor’s commitment to making Chicago the best place to live, work and raise a family."
"We give a public service award when we hear about a person who has gone out of his or her way to better the industry," said Sharon Topel, ASA Chicago Executive Director. This honor has only been awarded on three previous occasions in the 40-year history of the organization.
"Rosie is dedicated to all companies that are trying to make the OMP a success," added Art Arriaga, ASA Chicago Board Member. "She always has time to speak to everyone at their numerous networking conferences, and we appreciate her efforts to make sure OMP contractors are paid in a timely manner. The fact that this award is rarely given speaks to the level of respect she has earned in her efforts to level the playing field for contractors throughout the region."
In order to provide opportunities for contractors to compete for work on this project, the OMP has:
- Hosted five Contractor Open Houses since January 2005 that provide contractors the opportunity to hear details and ask questions about upcoming construction bid packages and network with contractors of every size and type
- Co-sponsored an Aviation and Construction Industry Job Fair in November 2006 to give job seekers an opportunity to discuss job openings with firms working on the OMP
- Created an “OMP Web Alerts” system to notify subscribers instantly whenever new information is posted on the site, new bid packages are issued or dates for future contractor open houses are announced
- Committed to a 30-day turnaround on payments to vendors-- in fact, the OMP offers electronic wire transfers to issue payments in a timely manner
- Employed an Owner Controlled Insurance Program, or OCIP, that provides certain project specific insurance coverage for all contractors and subcontractors, and can allow minority and women-owned firms a greater opportunity to bid for work
Celebrating its 40th year of service in 2007, ASA Chicago today represents over 450 subcontractors, material suppliers and associate members in the six county Chicago metropolitan area. ASA Chicago’s mission is to educate its members, promote professionalism, advocate on behalf of its members on the state and local levels, and provide a forum for business opportunities in the construction industry.
