The Center of Excellence for Airport Technology (CEAT) at the University of Illinois Civil Engineering Department honored its Founding Director, Professor Emeritus Barry Dempsey, and celebrated the accomplishments of the Center at a reception on August 31, 2005. Director David Lange presented Barry Dempsey with a Distinguished Service Award and Boeing Dreamliner model airplane for his years of leadership and contributions.

CEE Department Head, Robert Dodds, started the program with a welcome and background of the importance and excitement of centers within the department. Director David Lange spoke about the center, its FAA and OMP sponsors and the bright future of the center. He recognized the strong leadership in the past and the current research projects with CEE faculty who are leading the future of the center. Professor Emeritus Marshall Thompson was the third speaker for the event. Marshall gave a more personal testimony of Barry as a friend since 1950 and how they have worked together over the years in the Department and with the FAA COE and ATREL.

The new office facility for CEAT has been completed since May 2005, which was another highlight for the event. All CEE Faculty and Staff who attended were invited to tour the new space.
